Adoption Promo Video

Back in Fall of 2012 our family received an Angels in Adoption Award from Michele Bachmann.  Derly, Estefania and I had the privilege to go to Washington DC to meet with other families who were recipients of the award.  We had several days of events from lobbying on Capitol Hill to a Gala night honoring those who strive to bring adoption awareness to their community.  They also made a video of our family and our journey.  Check it out:  http://bachmann.house.gov/adoption-profile-matthews-family

7 states in 7 days

(*This post was from Oct 2012, but never got published)

We returned from a family vacation/reunion in IL, IN, and KY.  We traveled from MN, WI, IL, IN, KY, MO, IA in a weeks time.  Our journey started in IL where we were able to visit Tia Anita, Tio Andy, Tia Jan and primas Grace, 7 and Rachel, 5.  It was nice to see everyone and Jhon enjoyed meeting more family members.  We spent the night in IL and then traveled to IN where we stayed with Tio Jeff, Tia Kiki and primos Lauren, 12 and Ethan 10.  We had a great time swimming at playing with their cousins.  Thankfully Jhon is very outgoing, he loved playing light-sabers with Ethan.  We have 3 who get car sick, so thankfully premedicating with benadryl helps (it is also an anti-emetic which helps keep their stomachs settled).  We then made to journey to KY, stopping in Santa Clause, IN on the way.  The kids loved seeing everyone, Grandma, Grandpa, Tia Melissa, Jed, Tia Meg, Tio Alex, Tia Erin, Patrick, primas Madison, 8, Charlotte, 7, Tio Justin, Tia Kristina, Anna, Heidi (9), Luke, 7, Emily 5.  We enjoyed time on the new farm.  They have been there the last year and have done amazing work on the home.  Jim and the kids tented the first couple of nights before it got too cold.  They really enjoyed riding the four-wheeler, tractor, and go-carts.  They have a walking trail in the woods they all loved going on and discovering treasures.  There poison ivy in several places and only Prospero got it on his hand and small amt on his face, but thankfully he is healing fast.  Because it is hunting season, all the adults wore orange hats and the kids wore orange vests numbered with 1-11, (oldest to youngest grandkids).  Jhon plans on spending a week with Grandma and Grandpa this summer and talks about it all the time.

Welcome 2013

It has been awhile since a post from the Matthews family.  We have been keeping very busy this holiday season.  Jhon tremendously enjoyed his first Christmas in the United States.  It was so nice to have him here with us after the 10month journey to bring him home.  We celebrated our 6month anniversary with him in December.  I worked Christmas Eve and Day, but was able to be home in the morning for opening presents and then was placed on call for several hours in the evening so I could join to family for dinner and bedtime.  We have had limited access to internet this month, so no pictures for this post.  We have all been staying healthy thus far, the hospitals up here have been slammed with flu cases.  Jim started back at seminary this week; he has a hard semester this time with Greek.  Jhon has an appt on Friday with a pediatric dental clinic in Minneapolis to get his front teeth worked on.  He has brown deposits on them and they are going to try to remove them, pray it works.  He will also be getting braces next month, which he is excited for at this time.  The kids all had roller skating in school in December and loved that, now to find a roller rink in the area so we can all go someday.  Derly enjoyes helping cook and likes to try new recipes.  Estefania is excited for her 8th birthday in a couple of weeks.  Seems like just last week she was only 5.  Jesus is now in all day kindergarten and enjoying his new teacher.  He comes home tired as he is adjusting to the new schedule and longer days at school. He needs to have a snack in his backpack for the bus ride home otherwise he is starving.  Prospero has gone through a growth spurt and is getting heavier to carry, my little baby is growing up so fast.  He loves preschool and a very talkative and sociable kid.  We look forward to what 2013 will bring and are loving this life God has given us and called us to.
