Christmas Morning

The Matthews family enjoyed a great year in 2013.  We love spending time together and the kids are at fun ages of learning, exploring, and coming into their own.  Jhon is excited for 2014 and turning 13 in May; he cannot wait for Jr High as well.  He is very loving to his siblings and excited for his second Christmas with his new family.  Derly enjoyed swim lessons this fall.  She is very smart and loves learning about photography.  She has a natural eye for photography and will be fun to see how she will use it in her future.  She comes along on a lot of my photo shoots.  Estefania is excited to turn 9 next month.  She loved Dance this last fall, she tried ballet and hip hop, she loved being on stage in front of everyone.  Ryan cannot wait for soccer in the spring.  He also loves drawing and wrestling with his brothers.  Ryan is very sweet and caring.  Prospero is very active and loves to do whatever his siblings are doing.  He loves Starwars, ToyStory and Thomas the Train.  He enjoys preschool and having friends over.  He loves his alone time with mom and dad while the kids are at school.  I am thankful for the another year as a family.  I am thankful to God for sending his son Jesus and celebrating his birth on Christmas.  I look forward to see how God will move in the next year.  I am so proud of Jim, on the tail end of his seminary journey.  We pray you and your family find rest this Christmas season.  Rest in Him, place your cares and anxieties on the Lord and trust in the Almighty for He cares for you.  Merry Christmas!!!

Creating Winter Memories

Thanksgiving has recently come and gone; the Matthews enjoyed a "quiet" thanksgiving with our family and Grandma Matthews.  We enjoyed time together, good food and great fellowship.  We started off the winter season by cutting down our Christmas Tree at Jan's Tree Farm, an annual tradition.  Prospero's pick this year: he loved the little ones, but then understood they needed to grow bigger and we weren't allowed to pick the ones that were only 2ft tall.  He settled on a beautiful tree just under 6ft.  Jhon enjoyed being "the man" by cutting the tree down with little help from Jim.  We look forward to dance recitals, school performances, and the Christmas program at church.  I joined the choir this year and look forward to the Christmas services.  I have not been in choir in 15 years, since high school, and am blessed to serve in this area.  We spend this season reflecting on the last year and all God has done for us and excited for what our future holds as Jim is graduating from Seminary this Spring!!!

Love this pic, I know Jhon is wearing 2 diff shoes, "it is my style", and Prospero has Estefania's gloves on, the only pair we could find that fit him, how do gloves go missing so often??? I love the happiness in their faces.

3 Year Celebration!!!

November 2, 2010

On this day 3 years ago I became an instant mom to four beautiful, amazing, smart, funny, wonderful children. To God be the glory. Not a day passes that I don't thank God for my children and the gift of love and laughter they bring to our family. I love hearing my children call me Mommy. What a blessing to be given such responsibility.

With much heartache in this world, it is important to stop and be thankful for what we have and what we have been given. November is adoption awareness month. The Word of God commands those of us who believe in Him to care for the widows and orphans of this world (James 1:27). It is not a suggestion or mere good idea, but a command from the One above. May I be so bold in asking: In what ways are you doing your part? Maybe you donate your time to help your local community care for the hurting, maybe your prayers are saturated with cries of help for the little ones who need a loving home, or maybe God is tugging at your heartstrings to pursue adopting a child. I pray you are moved by the Spirit to take action in whatever way you feel led and help change the life of child. Consider donating to organizations such as Show Hope (www.showhope.org), Gift of Adoption (www.giftofadoption.org), LifeSong (www.lifesongfororphans.org). Those were some of the organizations that helped us bring our kids home. As the holiday season is fast upon us, hug your children and tell them you love them everyday. Remember the gifts and blessings God has given you. Let go of the past and embrace the here and now.

I had the privilege of taking one of the kids shopping today. What happened prior to the shopping trip was as follows: One of the kids decided to deface their siblings treasured toy out of jealousy. He admitted he was jealous and apologized for what he did. I then took my son out shopping, he asked me "Mom, I just messed up, why are you taking me out?, I don't deserve it." My response: we mess up all the time and hurt God, He forgives us and shows us grace. This is how I want to live- striving to show grace to my children and others just as Christ shows me grace.
