Visas for the Kids!

Hey Everyone,

We have the visas for the kids now!  I picked them up today at the US Embassy.  All paperwork is now complete--all we need to do is travel on Thursday!

We have one last day in Bogota tomorrow.  We plan on maybe doing an amusement park with the kids and making sure we eat at Crepes and Waffles before we go.  The kids are excited, and they were able to play with friends they met at Hotel Pension Stein two weeks ago today.

Thanks for all of your prayers and support!

US Embassy

Hey Everyone,

Today was another good day.  We had our appointment at the US Embassy today.  We were there for a few hours, which isn't too bad, since we saw lines of people waiting to get a visa to enter the us for work.  The children have been approved for their visas!  I will pick up the visas tomorrow at 1PM--this is the last step in the process.  We will be cleared to travel back to the United States after receiving the visas.  We plan on traveling on Thursday, our original travel date.  Thanks for your prayers through this process!

The children are excited to come to the US, but are also grieving at different times for leaving their home in Colombia.  Imagine this--leaving everything that you have known for all of your life behind and entering something new.  The smells, tastes, food, and language is different.  Please pray for this transition for our children.  They are excited, but at the same time, we need to be sensitive to their process of adjustment to the newness of the United States.

Thanks so much for all of your support and prayers!

Jim

Mall of South America

Today was another good day, we went to the mall today, the largest mall in South America.  We also saw a movie in 3d, Megamind, the kids enjoyed it, for the adults it was all in Spanish with no subtitles but we enjoyed watching it anyways.  We have our US embassy appt tomorrow at 1030a and we were told it should last about 2hrs.  We then get our Visas on Tues.  If all goes well we could travel home on Wednesday, pray for all documents to go through with no problems and Visas get processed fast.  We have enjoyed our time here and are itching to get home.

The Ups and Downs of a Park

Today started off on a bumpy note.  Melanie woke up with a migraine and was really sick, Jim and Melissa and the kids went to the park so Mel could rest.  (thankfully after some medications Mel's migraine went away!) The park was great but it is Bogota's rainy season and there were puddles everywhere.  The kids had a blast until Jesus Ryan's nose met the pavement while climbing on the bars, he recovered well but has a fat lip, but thankfully no broken teeth. There are thunderstorms going on now so the kids are enjoying a Christmas movie.  There are very excited to go the United States.  We are loving the cooler weather here, not so sure we are ready for snow, however.  Not much going on today and tomorrow, I believe we will be at the Embassy on Monday.  Love, Mel

Bogota Arrival

Hey Everyone,

We arrived safe in Bogota this am, after being on the runway for 2 hours.  We're still not sure why we were on the runway for 2 hours in Cali, but we got to Bogota about 10 this morning.  The kids now have their Colombian passports and also met with the US Embassy doctor.  We will go to the embassy on Monday for final paperwork.

Bogota has an amazing climate--around 60.  It's a large city, but fairly clean.  It's been a good day visiting, and they have parks--one thing that Cali did not have.

Thanks for your prayers and support!

Thanksgiving Day

Hey Everyone,

Thanksgiving Day--although today didn't feel much like it for some of the day. With the kids running around and no one else celebrating at the hotel, sometimes I forgot that today was Thanksgiving.  There is much to be thankful for.  Mel and I have waited four long years for our beautiful children--we are so happy and excited to finally have our forever family!  Words really can't express what we are feeling right now--God is good!

We just met with our lawyer and translator for the last time here in Cali.  We have ten sentencias and 6 birth certificates for each child, with our names as father and mother!  We have finalized all of the paperwork, we now just travel to Bogota tomorrow morning for passports and the US Embassy doctor to make sure everything is good for travel.  Our flight leaves at 7am tomorrow, which means 4:30AM wakeup calls.

Thank you so much for your encouragement and your prayers throughout this process.  We will continue to need your prayers, support, and encouragement as we finish the process in Bogota and return home, Lord willing, December 2nd.

Talk with you later,

Jim

Some Birth Certificates...

Hey Everyone,

It was another good day today.  We were notified that our attorney was able to retrieve one birth certificate, while waiting for the other three.  She might have been been able to get the other three before the business day closed--if not she was going to stay overnight and get them in the morning.  There is a possibility that we might still be able to get passports tomorrow, and perhaps fly to Bogota tomorrow night.  Please pray that this possibility will occur.  It would be nice to get some things done in Bogota on Friday.

Thanks for all of your support and prayers!

Have a great Thanksgiving tomorrow!

Sentencia!

Hey Everyone,

Got the call today at around 4PM today that the papers were ready to be signed for the formal adoption.  I drove to the court building with our translator and signed the papers!  Our attorney travels to Sevilla  (our children's home town) tomorrow to get birth certificates for all the children.  Once we get the birth certificates, then we can get our passports the next day, and then travel to Bogota to finish the process with the US Embassy.  Birth certificates usually just take one day, but the kids' might take two, since there are four that need to be done.  Please pray that it takes only one day, that way we can travel to Bogota quicker.

It was a good day today with the kids.  It's nice to know that the end is in sight.  Our original travel date back to the United States on December 2nd might be pretty accurate.  Bogota takes 3-5 days, which puts us right around Dec 2nd.  It's been three weeks since we've had our kids--time has flown by!

Thanks for your support and prayers!

Jim

Make Up and hair-do day with the kids today.

Tia Melissa got a silver and red polish to her fingernails

Drawing with shaving cream...

Which turned into shaving cream everywhere!

No knew news today, hopefully tomorrow.  We had a fun day today with make overs and shaving cream drawing, then a trip to Mcdonalds to play inside while it rained outside.  Pray we will hear tomorrow!
