Why Colombia?

We chose Colombia (rather God lead us there) due to the amount of children that need a home in this country. They have orphanages as well as foster care for the children there. We love the Hispanic culture and know God called us there. At the time we started the paperwork the wait was 18-24months. Due to the Colombian courts on strike in fall 2008, the wait has now increased to 30-36months. We were officially approved in December 2007 for an infant 0-2 years old (boy or girl). We won't know the gender until they assign us a child. We know God has given us a heart for Colombia so at this point we con't to wait for the child God wants us to have. We are hoping in the next 2 years well will get to meet our little one! We are using this blog to keep you updated on events that unfold throughout the next couple years and beyond as God directs our journey.

Why Adoption?

Jim and I have always had a heart for adoption, we knew that God was calling us to. We started talking about adoption when we were dating and found we both have a heart for children that need a family. We have been adopted by God into His family, so how could we not consider adopting children that need a mom and dad, and hear about God's love for them.  We felt a calling to adopt all of our children, so we officially started the paperwork process Aug 2006.  The only way I can explain it is through the guidance of our God and Holy Spirit.  One of my favorite quotes "You can argue with bringing another child into this world, but how can you argue with loving one who is already here" (Martian Child).  We want our children to know they are our first choice.  With so many kids in the world that need a home, we want to make a difference, and this is one way we are going to make that happen.  One year later, Aug 2007 we submitted our paperwork to Colombia.  So now we wait!

The Matthews' First Post!

Hello All! Well we finally got a blog to keep you upated on our lives here in MN. Hope you are enjoying your summer, love the colder weather! Our summer has been very busy with activities. Jim is in Ohio on a youth trip to Cedar Point Amusement Park, hopefully staying dry as the rain seems to be following them. I had the pleasure of going to New York in June to help photograph a wedding.
